Webmail Instruction
The RRZK provides a webmail- and groupware web application. This allows you to organize your e-mails, your calendar, assignments and notws from any computer worldwide, with all common browsers.
As long as you use the protocol IMAP, you can use this system parallely to all common e-mail programs. If you use POP3, this might lead to problems.

Login und Set-Up

You can login with your smail- or uni-account, here:
https://webmail.uni-koeln.de/
For "Modus" you can choose between the standard surface "Traditionell", the more modern, AJAX-based surface, "Dynamisch", and the simple surface "Minimalistisch", especially for mobile devices.
After your first login, you have to adjust the settings and add your personal information. Please register with your full and correct name.
Help and Documentation
You can open the online-help with this icon
in the menu bar. It explains all important functions. The help is context-sensitive which means that it will only explain those functions that are shown on the surface at that moment.
In case you experience more technical problems feel free to write an e-mail to the Beratung for advice. Please send a detailed description of your problem and name the browser you use and its version (for example Internet Explorer 7.0)
Security Advice
You can find information about the process of certification on the web side of the certification office of the university.
Zertifizierungsstelle der Uni Köln.
Especially when you work with computers that are not your own it is important to logout after each session with this button
Encrypting your e-mails via GnuPG or PGP is only possible indirectly by encrypting your text on your local computer with GnuPG or PGP and then copy and paste it to the webmail interface and then send it.
Groupware Functions
Besides the usual e-mail functions, Webmail provides a range of groupware functions. Especially the calendar
and the task managment
can be very helpful.
When you set up a date in your calendar, you can invite other participants. You can do that by inserting e-mail addresses, not only of university members. If you select "Aktualisierungen an alle Teilnehmer schicken?" (send update to all participants?) all participants will get an invitation via mail which they can either accept or reject.
