The RRZK

As a central facility, the RRZK provides members of the University of Cologne extensive IT services. For example, you will receive a personnel or student account from us, which you can use for numerous services at the university. Central offers such as Wi-Fi, e-mail or VPN are directly supported by us. We are happy to support you by e-mail, telephone or in person in our building in Weyertal 121.

The completely renovated building has been offering premises for all RRZK employees since 2012. Around 100 people work here in 7 departments (student and scientific assistants, employees in technology and administration as well as science).

IT services for the sciences

The high-performance computer CHEOPS (Cologne High Efficient Operating Platform for Science) is available to researchers from Cologne and partly from all over North Rhine-Westphalia for their research work. For example, our HPC (High Performance Computing) can be used to run computing applications that can no longer be efficiently calculated on individual computers. Complex simulations, for example, can be carried out thanks to the performance of 100 teraflop/s peak.

Furthermore, we are happy to advise you on your (research) projects, such as the design of individual services through our service development or the management of your research data. If you would like to record your event or lecture, we will also support you in this.

Basic IT services

In addition to actively supporting interdisciplinary research projects, we offer other services to employees of institutes or institutions. For example, we provide you with storage space, web projects and internal wikis (knowledge databases). Use the corresponding contact forms and provide us with the most important information.

The RRZK Helpdesk also offers other services: Whether general IT questions, problems with Apple devices or your computer – please contact us. We also help you with the installation of a new Windows or with the removal of viruses on your computer.

In addition, students and employees have the opportunity to use our computer workspaces at Weyertal 121 and Philosophikum. In addition to the standard programs, some workstations are equipped with special software such as MAXQDA, Adobe Creative Suite or SPSS. In addition, our course program offers you the opportunity to learn different programs during the lecture-free period. However, we not only enable members of the University of Cologne to work with, but also to purchase software at discounted conditions in our software shop.
