Establishing a VPN connection under Windows RT
You can use this instruction to establish a VPN connection under Windows RT, for example on a Surface Tablet. Please follow all the steps. We assume that you already have an existing internet connection.
Hint: You can enlarge the pictures by clicking on them.
Go to the desktop (Windows button -> Desktop), swipe from the right and choose settings.
Choose the Control Panel.
Choose "Network and Internet".
Click on "Network and Sharing Center".
Click on "Set up a new connection or network".
Choose "Connect to a workplace" and click on "Next".
Choose "Use my Internet connection (VPN)"
Enter the following information:
Internet address: l2tpgate.uni-koeln.de (L2TPGATE)
Destination name: Uni-Köln VPN-Verbindung
Leave the checkmark next to "Allow other people to use this connection" if other users should be able to use the VPN connection too.
Now click on "Create" to finish.
Now, click on "Change adapter settings"
Put you finger on the newly established VPN connection. After lifting it, the menu list opens.
Click on "Properties".
Choose the tab "Security" and then choose for Type of VPN "Layer-2-Tunneling-Protokoll mit IPSec (L2TP/IPsec)".
Click on "Advanced Settings" and in the Advanced Properties window, click the button next to "Use preshared key for authentication" and enter the key "uklan". After entering the key ckick on "OK" to close the window and then click again on "OK" to close the properties window.
Now click on "Start Connection" and the network menu opens or just click on the Network icon in the Settings.
Choose your VPN connection and click on "Connect".
Now you can test if your VPN connection works. Visit the website www.wieistmeineip.de.
If you are shown an IP address between 134.95.92.x and 134.95.95.x your VPN connection works.
