Security advice for using UniKoeln-WEB

Please note that all network traffic on UniKoeln-Web is unencrypted. Only the login is encrypted using HTTPS. Therefore it is very easy to capture data which is transmitted through this network.

Many sites which use sensitive data also use the https protocol, for example, webmail (web.de, gmx.de) and banks. This means that your data can be encrypted reliably. Entering your data on secure websites is not so much of a problem. However, the websites you have visited can still be tracked.

We recommend always using eduroam, the encrypted wireless network for the University of Cologne. Once it has been configured once, you do not have to log in for every session.
