IBM SPSS Statistics

IBM SPSS Statistics is a statistical system that essentially covers the entire spectrum of statistical methods. It consists of a basic module that enables basic data management and extensive statistical and graphical data analyses with the most common statistical methods, as well as numerous additional modules for special problems.

Order: You can purchase this software from the University of Cologne software store.

Note on the network license:

To use the network licenses, a connection to the university network UKLAN must be established (via VPN, eduroam or institute network).

For licensing, the option "simultaneously logged in users" must be selected in the "Product authorization" step during installation. Then enter the host name of the license server. The host name will be sent to you automatically by email with the order confirmation.

Language: All versions are multilingual.

License conditions

  1. The licenses are rental licenses that must be paid for annually.
  2. The term is one calendar year, from 01.10 - 30.09.
  3. Licenses for institutions and students are not automatically renewed.
  4. After termination (cancellation) of the license, the software must be uninstalled at the end of the license year.
  5. Members of the University of Cologne are entitled to use the software. Use by third parties is not permitted.
  6. When using single-user licenses, you have the right to install the software on up to two devices per license, as long as only the authorized person uses the products and the different installations are not used simultaneously.
  7. If the software is installed on a work computer that is only used by one person, there is a home use right. This means that you are also permitted to use the software on a private computer . The home use right generally applies to students.
  8. Use is restricted to work in the context of research and teaching; commercial use is excluded. Non-commercial work in the statutory areas of responsibility of a university is understood to mean work in the context of which (i) the work results are not primarily reserved for a third party; (ii) copies of the results are made available at a maximum of the provision, reproduction and shipping costs.

  9. Additional extended rights of use

    Administrative use:

    Permits use not only for teaching and learning purposes, but also back-office and administrative purposes.

    Academic hospital use:

    Members of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne in assigned parts of the University Hospital of Cologne, which exist directly for the fulfillment of tasks in accordance with a law or a legal regulation (HG NRW §31 and §31a,b), are entitled to use the programs for non-commercial work in the sense of the tasks of the university. Use in other parts of the University Hospital Cologne, its facilities and partner institutions is not permitted.

  10. The use of the software in virtual computer laboratories or other virtual access systems is not permitted.
  11. The framework agreement permits the use of older versions (n -1) of the products(downgrade right) - only applies to single user licenses. The right to upgrade(within the term of the contract) and to change the language, version or platform are part of the right of use.
  12. Each license must be activated with an individual authorization code, which can no longer be used afterwards. Since the RRZK cannot check whether the code has been used, issued licenses cannot be taken back.
  13. The contract with IBM is limited in time and is extended or renewed by one contract period at a time, provided that agreement can be reached between the contracting parties. The license costs may change as a result of contract renewal.

Please note that changes to your hardware, such as replacing the hard disk, may invalidate your license!
