eduroam WLAN access under Windows

Please use the WLAN portal for your Windows operating system to set up eduroam.

If you do not have a mobile data connection, you can use the Welcome@University of Cologne network to access the portal.

To set up eduroam on Windows , we have provided a video tutorial.

Visit our WLAN portal and select the first item "Set up WLAN access for ..." download the new configuration file there.

If you have already set up eduroam on the device, delete the old profile to avoid incorrect configuration. You can find instructions on how to do this here.

  • You may receive a warning message from SmartScreen, because it cannot check the program without an internet connection. Click on "Run". If you do not have the choice to run the program, look for a underlined text in the message called “More information” and click on it. Now you should click on “Run”. Confirm the message "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device" with "Yes".
  • Enter your username and password and click "Next".
  • The configuration may take some time. When the configuration is complete, click "Done". As a rule, you will now be connected directly to the eduroam network.
  • If you want to connect to the network automatically in the future, click the info icon next to the network.
  • In the new window you can set the network to connect automatically. You can also set the network profile type. This should be set to "Public" as recommended by Microsoft.

  1. Run the application "WiFi_University_of_Cologne_Wrapper.exe". Usually you can find the application in your downloads folder.
