Problems accessing the network
The computer cannot connect to the network with the error "The network cable is unplugged / Disconnected" under network connections:
The computer must be physically connected to UKLAN to access the network. If your computer displays "Disconnected" or "The network cable is unplugged", please check that the network cable is connected to both the network socket and the PC. Try using another network cable and test another network socket. If the LEDs on the network card flash when the network cable is plugged in, the computer is connected to the network. In some buildings with dual sockets, the right port is for telephone use only. Please check whether the left port works correctly.
The computer cannot access the network and has been assigned the IP address 169.254.x.x:
This means that the computer has not been registered correctly on the network. Please check the MAC address given to the RRZK and send all details again (including the hostname) to the Hostmaster.
The computer cannot access the internet but can access institute websites:
This could be caused by the firewall configuration. Please send the hostname and MAC address of the PC and a note that this may be caused by the firewall configuration to the Hostmaster.
