Troubleshooting

If you have problems with the connection to the SoFS drive, please first check the path for correct spelling. The information below refers to the connection via CIFS/SMB, for other connection methods please check the instructions:

Windows:

  • private area: \\sofs1.uni-koeln.de\accountname
  • public area: \\sofs1.uni-koeln.de\public\[first letter of the account name\Accountname
  • SoFS area of an institute: usually: \\sofs2.uni-koeln.de\projects\name

macOS:

  • private area: smb://sofs1.uni-koeln.de/Accountname
  • public area: smb://sofs1.uni-koeln.de/public/beginning letter of the account name/account name
  • SoFS area of an institute: smb://sofs2.uni-koeln.de/projects/name

Linux:

  • private area: smb://sofs1.uni-koeln.de/private/Accountname
  • personal public area: smb://sofs1.uni-koeln.de/public/beginning letter of account name/account name
  • SoFS area of an institute: smb://sofs2.uni-koeln.de/projects/name | smb://sofs.uni-koeln.de/name

Also make sure you log in with the correct user name:

  • Windows: ad\Accountname
  • macOS: Account name
  • Linux/Ubuntu: Enter "AD" for Domain and the corresponding account name for User name.

Further help - Windows

  • Check whether you are connected to the university network via LAN, WLAN or VPN.
  • If you would like to log in to an institute's SoFS area, please check whether you have been given permission to access the area. To do this, contact the administrator of the SoFS area.
  • If the corresponding SoFS folder is already displayed as a network drive, but a connection is not possible, right-click on it and then select "Disconnect" in the context menu. Then restart the computer and try to mount the folder again.
  • Storing the login information
  • Delete the logon information in the logon information management. Enter the term "Logon Information Management" in the Windows search and open the corresponding result. Now select "Windows credentials" and check whether the keyword "Windows credentials" contains entries "sofs.uni-koeln.de" or "sofs2.uni-koeln.de" or similar. Remove the corresponding entry and then restart your device. Sometimes it can also help to store the login information there yourself. To do this, click on "Add Windows credentials" and enter "\\sofs1.uni-koeln.de" or "\\sofs2.uni-koeln.de" in the "Internet or network address" field (depending on which folder you want to connect to). For user name, enter "ad\Accountname", you can leave the password field empty. Confirm the login data with "Ok".
  • Call up the command prompt and enter net use * /delete to remove all connected network drives. Please note that you will have to reintegrate the network drives yourself after restarting the device. Write down the path of the area if necessary.

Problem with rights clearance

When releasing rights for users, you will receive a password prompt several times during the process and, after searching for the account (step 6 of the instructions), an error message that the username or password is incorrect (see image).

In this case, please contact the RRZK helpdesk.
