sciebo FAQ
Here you will find a list of all common questions about sciebo.
I can't log in to sciebo?!
Please check the following:
- Are you logging into the correct server? For student and staff accounts: https://uni-koeln.sciebo.de/login If you are logging in with a guest account, please use the following login page: https://gast.sciebo.de/login
- Please make sure that you are logging in with the correct account name. This consists of your user name at the university and the suffix "@uni-koeln.de", regardless of whether you have a student or staff account. Example: User name: mmuster1 + @uni-koeln.de => mmuster1@uni-koeln.de. For guest IDs, log in with the e-mail address with which you received the invitation.
- A separate password can be set in sciebo, so check that you have entered the correct password. If you are no longer sure whether you know the correct password, you can reset it via my.sciebo. You can find instructions on how to do this here.
Can I use sciebo with a guest account?
No, you cannot register in sciebo with a guest account. However, it is possible to use sciebo with a guest-ID.
Error message in the sciebo client: "Warning: There is already a synchronization from the server to this local folder. Please select another local folder."
This error message can also occur if no synchronization is set up in the client.
To rectify the error, delete the relevant folder and create it again. If you still have files in the folder that you do not want to delete, display hidden files (Windows | Mac) and delete the following files:
- .owncloudsync.log
- .sync_journal.db
- .sync_journal.db-shm
- .sync_journal.db-wal
Please note that using folders that already contain files can lead to automatic overwriting of data.
I can't renew my sciebo account?!
The following reasons may be the reason why you cannot renew your account:
- You no longer have an account at the University of Cologne
- You do not have an account with the authorization to use sciebo: Only certain accounts are authorized to create or renew a sciebo account. Guest accounts, for example, are not authorized to do so. If you, as an employee of the University of Cologne, previously had a staff account, but this has been converted into a guest account, the authorization to renew sciebo expires. If you still have access to the account, back up your data. If you want to continue using sciebo, you can ask an authorized person for a guest account. Please note that the guest ID is a new account and that the files on the old account will not be transferred automatically, but must be transferred by yourself if necessary.
What can/may I save in sciebo and what not?
Please observe sciebo's terms of use. Please note the following in particular:
- If sciebo data is stored unencrypted on the sciebo servers, sciebo should not be used as permanent data storage or for backing up files.
- The storage of special personal data of third parties in accordance with Art. 9 para. 1 GDPR is not permitted by sciebo's terms of use.
- sciebo does not back up the data stored there. Lost or deleted data may not be able to be restored!
