How to mount SoFS folders in windows 10 using cifs/smb

Mount as network ressource

A connection to the network of the university (via eduroam, ethernet or vpn) is required to be able to connect to a SoFS drive using this manual.

1. Start the Explorer by right-clicking the start button and choosing Explorer.

Hint: You may also use the shortcut Win+E.

2. Select "This PC".

3. Select "Map network drive"

4. Put the folder path of the SoFS folder you want to access into the "Folder"-field. The choice of the drive letter is your's.

  • Private folders are located under \\sofs1.uni-koeln.de\account
  • Public folders are located under \\sofs1.uni-koeln.de\public\first letter of account\account
  • Folders of institutions are individual, you get them in your institute (common is \\sofs2.uni-koeln.de\foldername)

5. Enable "Connect using different credentials" and click "Finish". A new window will appear, where you need to authenticate.

6. Click "More choice" if needed, and enter your credentials. Enter your accountname in the following format: "ad\accountname" and enter your password.

7. Finish by clicking OK. You can now find your SoFS folder as a network share under "This PC".
