Instructions for accessing SoFS on Windows 11 via WebDAV

Caution: Access via WebDAV always leads to problems and is not recommended for everyday use of SoFS. Rather, it is a help for situations in which you have to quickly access documents (reading), but access via CIFS/SMB is not possible (e.B. on foreign computers or mobile).

A connection to the UKLAN (via eduroam, LAN or VPN) is necessary to connect to an SoFS drive via this route.

1. Open Windows Explorer by clicking the folder icon at the bottom of the taskbar.

Tip: Alternatively, you can press Windows Key+E on your keyboard to open Explorer.

2. Select "This PC".

3. First, click on the three dots in the menu bar and then select "Add Network Address".

4. Click "Next", select "Choose a custom network location" and click "Next" again.

5. Under "Internet or network adress" put in the path of the SoFS folder you want to access. Plese note that the beginning of the path might need to be changed for using WebDAV instead of CIFS.
Orient yourself to the following:

  • Private folders are located under https://sofsdav.uni-koeln.de/private/account
  • Public folders are located under https://sofsdav.uni-koeln.de/public/first letter of account/account
  • Folders of institutions are individual, you get them in your institute (common is https://sofsdav.uni-koeln.de/foldername)

Click "Next".

6. Enter your credentials. Enter your accountname in the following format: "ad\accountname" and enter your password. After that your connection will be established.
